A joint Statement between the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army chaired by Abdul Wahid Al Nour and the Sudanese Congress Party
A joint meeting between the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) and the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SLM/A) led by Abdul Wahid Al Nour was convened in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, on 14th of September 2024, in the evening of Saturday, among the participants to the meeting included , the Movement’s deputy chairman, major – general Abdella Harran Adam, and the SCP’s deputy chairman, engineer / Khalid Omer Yousif, along with senior leaders from the party’s political bureau and figures from the movement’s leadership.
The Meeting which thoroughly and transparently deliberated the political and humanitarian developments in Sudan in the wake of the 15th of April 2023 war, with both sides agreed on the causes and consequences of the war, furthermore concluded the following points:-
- Both sides emphasized the importance of unifying efforts and fostering coordination between the movement and the party, to confront the current challenges, moreover; a joint committee at the leadership level was formed to develop strategic understandings between the two parties.
- The two parties agreed on the need to expedite efforts to build broader and inclusive civilian political front, with new methodologies and bases, that will address the mistakes of the previous alliances and alignments, which will include all forces opposing the war and advocating for peace in Sudan, excluding only the National Congress party and it facades and those who willingly refuse to participate, all these aimed at strengthening efforts to end the conflict.
- The meeting stressed the importance of addressing the stifling humanitarian crisis faced by millions of Sudanese men and women and called on all the international and Sudanese parties to make every effort to provide humanitarian aid and deliver it to those in need.
- The meeting reaffirmed the movement’s and the party’s unified stance against the war, and their refusal to side with any of the warring parties, as well as condemning all the heinous violations committed by both sides against innocent civilians, additionally the meeting stressed the need to intensify efforts to reach a peaceful political solution to the conflict as quickly as possible
- The two parties agreed to stand against the rhetoric that propagates for division and hatred among the components of the Sudanese society, emphasizing the need to strengthen the rhetoric of unity and peace instead.
In conclusion; the attendees agreed on the necessity of continuing meetings between the two sides and intensifying coordination among all anti- war forces, they also reaffirmed their commitment to diligently work to end the wars and eventually; establish a Sudanese state that represents all its sons and daughters and achieves the goals of the glorious December people’s revolution.
