Press Statement: European Tour of the Chairman of the Sudan Liberation Movement and His Delegation

As part of the European tour launched by the chairman of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) , comrade Abdul Wahid Mohammed Ahmed Al Nour, and his accompanying delegation, the team arrived in Switzerland yesterday but one. During their visit, they held a series of meetings with the Swiss government, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; they also convened with the International Committee of the Red Cross at its headquarters in Geneva.
However; the SLM delegation presented to both Swiss government and the International Committee of the Red Cross an in-depth explanation to the historical root causes of the Sudanese crisis, which resulted in protracted wars and political instability since 1955. The delegation also highlighted failure of bilateral and piecemeal solutions, which ultimately contributed to the outbreak of the current war.
Furthermore, the delegation emphasized the imposition of unilateral political projects and religious ideology by the successive Sudanese regimes on a heterogeneous, multi- ethnic, multi- cultural, and multi-religious nation,. They noted that, the escapism from Sudan’s authentic national identity remains one of the root causes of Sudan’s crises.
The delegation also clarified the movement’s principled stance on the ongoing war that began on 15th of April 2023 and its adoption of strict neutrality prudent position concerning all parties to the conflict.
Mr. Abdul Wahid Al Nour also deliberated on the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Sudan in general and in areas under the movement’s control in particular, warning of an imminent famine and an unprecedented humanitarian disaster.
Thus, the delegation appealed to Swiss government, all European nations, and international humanitarian organizations and to freedom- loving people worldwide to urgently provide humanitarian aid and deliver relief to those in dire need as soon as possible.
The SLM delegation reaffirmed its steadfast support for the efforts of the International Quartet and the measures undertaken to resolve the Sudanese crisis, stressing the importance of a comprehensive ceasefire that includes the Sudanese Army, the Rapid Support Forces and the Revolutionary Armed Movements.
Additionally; the delegation briefed the Swiss government and the International Committee of the Red Cross on the proactive steps and initiatives projected by the movement since 2019, including the Sudanese- Sudanese dialogue initiative, which is a brain child of the movement.
Following the outbreak of the war in 2023, the movement proposed the establishment of the broadest possible inclusive, civilian-led national front aimed at stopping and ending the war in Sudan. This initiative involves all political and civil forces, with the exception of the National Congress Party (NCP) and its affiliates, or any actor unwilling to participate.
On their part, the Swiss government and the International Committee of the Red Cross, hailed the responsible proposals put forward by the movement’s leadership, highly valuing its national initiatives to resolve the Sudanese crisis. Both parties pledged to exert every possible effort to support the Sudanese people, particularly regarding humanitarian issues and the pursuit of resolving the crisis through peaceful means.
