Statement of Al-Kanabi Conference Center Regarding the Situation of Prisoners in Wad Madani Prison in Gezira state

The systematic targeting of prisoners by the Sudan Shield Forces, the Popular Resistance, and the security services continues, under the pretext of the so-called “Foreign Faces Law.” Innocent citizens with no connection to any military activity have been arrested solely because of their color, ethnicity, or geographic location. Unfortunately, most of the detainees are from Darfur and the Nuba Mountains.
The situation in Wad Madani Prison is extremely dangerous, lacking the most basic necessities of life. There is no clean drinking water, no adequate food, and a cholera outbreak has resulted in the deaths of more than 300 prisoners in the past two weeks. Furthermore, detainees are subjected to the most horrific forms of torture and degrading treatment, and their families have been denied visits.
We, the Al-Kanabi Conference Center, hold the Sudanese Armed Forces fully responsible for the lives of these prisoners from Al-Kanabi, Darfur, and the Nuba Mountains. We also call on international humanitarian and human rights organizations to quickly intervene and head to Wad Madani Prison to care for these detainees who are facing the risk of death.
Appeal to the International Community and Human Rights Organizations
We call on the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the UN Human Rights Council, and all human rights and media organizations to pressure the Sudanese army leadership and its allies to release these innocent detainees immediately or treat them in accordance with international humanitarian law.
