Media and journalists… in Kalma camp for displaced people, breaking barriers and dispelling fears

Report: Hadi Hassan

It is considered the first of its kind a visit by a group of media professionals and journalists to Kalma camp for the displaced, in order to find out the humanitarian and living conditions of the displaced inside the camp, which found approval from the displaced and described it as a unique gesture that has not happened before, and this visit comes within the framework of a development project The media in Darfur during the transitional period organized by the Khartoum Center for Press Services and Training in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation – Sudan

Fear and apprehension before the visit
Anxiety and anxiety dominated in the eyes of journalists and media professionals the moment they arrived at Kalma camp, and in their imaginations that camp, which is difficult to enter, according to the most appropriate procedures determined by its management, but these fears and concerns soon subsided after sitting with the camp administration and listening to their vision of peace and the challenges facing them.

There is no hate with anyone
At the beginning of his conversation with the media and journalists, Jacob Frey, the general coordinator of the camps for the displaced and refugees in Darfur, cut off that they have no hatred for anyone, but rather the people’s way of dealing with the displaced is what brings them hostility or friendship with them, and Frey stressed that there are different grievances in all parts of Sudan, which requires All Sudanese sit at one dialogue table to discuss it so that there is a lasting peace, not the peace of chairs and quotas, explaining that they represent 175 camps and their decisions are valid

Absolute freedom of the media
Frey added that media professionals and journalists have no enemies because they are the ones who convey the concerns and problems of the citizen, expressing his appreciation for the great role played by journalists and media agencies in highlighting the Darfur problem to the world, praising the media youth and journalists for their visit to Kalima, adding that this step had not happened before, even from Senior journalists, calling for openness to all the rest of Sudan with such visits, considering these young people the seed of change, stressing that Kalma camp (there is absolute freedom of the press and there is no silencing of mouths)

Support for Abdul Wahed Nour’s movement
Jacob Frey, General Coordinator of Displaced Persons and Refugees in Darfur, did not hide their support for the leader of the Sudan Liberation Army, Abdel Wahed Mohamed Nour, pointing out that their support has nothing to do with ethnic or tribal affiliation. the international community to get involved in the peace process from inside Sudan
And he continued, saying that they violate Abdul Wahed in the event that he did not abide by the points that were agreed upon, denying that the transitional government served them any aid and said (that the government did not provide nor a water kibble) and continued that the organizations provide them with foodstuffs in case of natural disasters, especially in floods The latter, but it is a perfectionist, wondering about the role of the government, demanding equality between all people, and Frey launched a scathing attack on all parties and politicians in Sudan, considering that they did not stand with the displaced, even with a word, adding that we did not hear anyone arrested because of the displaced

A tour inside the word market
Constant movement inside the Kalima market and life is running normally through the process of buying and selling, but the common denominator in the benefit of the displaced to journalists and media professionals is the need to bring criminals and perpetrators to justice and they said (no peace without justice)
